With the St. Jacob Elementary School Trunk or Treat 2015 sneaking up on us, I thought it would be a great idea to reminisce on our experience at Trunk or Treat, 2013. In 2013, we were still a very new chapter and just getting into the swing of things. Randomly, we were invited to SJES Trunk or Treat and were super excited about it! However, we kept pushing off our planning time and actually waited until the last minute to get everything together. Even though we were scrambling up until the time the trick-or-treaters came around, we still had time to get in touch with the local funeral home owner/director, Guideon Richeson, and persuaded him to let us use the hearse, for an added scary effect (as seen in movies). We decorated the back end of the hearse, had a fog machine, lights, and even had additional scary tunes playing on the radio. But, we didn’t really think about how we would power everything the whole night without running the car. So, we attempted to hook up a small generator for a little bit, but then figured it was okay to run everything from the car battery, as long as we started it every so often. After the night was dwindling down and we were out of candy for the kids, we decided to pack it all up. Jessica and I loaded our cars with the decorations, said goodbye to everyone, and then left to go home. About 15 minutes later I received a call from Guideon, and he said he was stranded in the school parking lot because we ended up killing the hearse’s battery! Jessica and I both could have sworn that it was fine when we left, so maybe there were actually some ghosts that ended up tampering with it? J Either way, we all got a good laugh out of it and even felt like a dead car battery was well worth it for being able to show up to SJES Trunk or Treat, pass out treats to the local community kids, and having the best looking, and only, decorated hearse there! Thanks again Guideon! Posted below are a few pictures of that night. Written by Rachel Bassett 2015 Marine/St. Jacob President |
